Hello Family & Friends!

“Deep Thoughts” or whatever you want to call my blogging...

This is my first official entry as a blogger…I had always said that I would not start a blog unless I had something great to talk about. I always thought it would be perhaps when Dustin and I decided to add an addition to our family…ya know besides those that are four-legged and furry…but I realized that if I wait until then there are so many random Emily Sue thoughts and blurbs that will pass by since “starting a family” honestly might still be years away. Not that we don’t want kids, but there are definitely times when after hanging out with nieces and nephews…gotta love ‘em…and their little friends (ie: Ari’s 8th B-day party that was yesterday) that I think to myself and say to Dustin I am glad we are waiting. It just seems so exhausting. Maybe I am (we are) too selfish, but I like coming home from work and just being. They say…and “they” being those who have reproduced already, that when you have your own kids it is completely different and your lives are forever changed. That is probably true, and one day after we have kids I will read this first blog entry and probably look back on myself and this entry as one that was written by someone who was young and immature. But that is okay with the me I am now.

Now picking a blog name has been something of a struggle for me…for those of you who know me well, I like to think I can be somewhat funny at times and make others laugh. However, in the attempt to capture that essence of me in a blog title, I still remain completely stumped. My brother in law, Nick, is very witty and came up with a “Texas Longhorn” title for me which was… “Sooner or later….I’ll bleed orange.” Not that I didn't appreciate his assistance, but I think I will pass on that title. I love Austin and I love living in Texas (most likely we won't ever move)…but I am Oklahoma born and Sooner bred. End of Story. So friends and family will have to settle with a more generic, not so clever title. I must say that when I finally settled on the title it made me think back on my childhood when I wanted to be an author or some sort of a writer. My mom and I would go on 2 to 3 week vacations up north visiting her parents (my amazing grandparents- Eleanor (100 years old) and Wayne (97 years old)- who by the way just celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary). We would be up in the woods enjoying nature at their cabin in the upper peninsula of Michigan and I would sit and attempt to write short stories, poems and of course general journal entries. At the age I was I absolutely loved weekend TV. Since I was a gymnast I really never watched any weeknight TV…for those of you who have had this discussion with me I very rarely know any of the shows our generation supposedly grew up with since I was at practice from 4 to 8:30 PM during the week. So on the weekends I loved to watch SNL. Phil Hartman was one of my favorites because he did the “Jack Handey” pieces that always made me laugh. Therefore, that is how I came to have the title "Deep Thoughts"...I definitely did not mean it in any way serious!
I will end this first blog entry with one of my favorite Jack Handey “Deep Thoughts”….and this perhaps confirms why I am not “kid ready” yet!!!

“Deep Thoughts” by Jack Handey

One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance I was going to take my little nephew
to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned out warehouse.
"Oh no!" I said "Disneyland burned down!"
He cried and cried but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good
joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.
